Fighting MS

John Latecki Jr

Fighting MS Posted by Hello

This is from Jan. 2004

John Latecki Jr http://www.fightingms.org/index.html is planning to paddle through the 48 contiguous states. He started paddling from Ohio 3 months ago.
I had the pleasure of meeting John Latecki at the start of a circumnavigation from the Downtown boathouse this past Saturday morning. We saw his small craft approaching us as we rounded the southern end of Manhattan Island. We could tell it was a canoe approaching even at a distance, from the single paddle motion.
John is planning to continue on to Pa. by way of the Raritan River Canal. He was not sure if this was the best course and unfortunately I didn't know either. If anyone has advise or ideas about sponsorship please contact John through his web site or send your message to Sandy Sobanski or me through this list server.
John is a strong and determined paddler and I'm sure that he will succeed with his planned journey, but he seems to be ill equipped. He doesn't have a dry suit or a VHS radio and he seems to need directions to help him find his way. He also could use some company so it would be nice to arrange to join John as he paddles through your area.
He can be contacted through his web site or by phone ( we have his #). He is keeping his canoe on a dock on Pier 63 so you might be able to catch him there before he continues his trek in a day or 2.
